Folder Redirection
I setup a group policy for folder redirection and selected the "Basic"
option. I would like to change the GPO to the ADvanced option and place
redirected folders based on security groups. If some users already ahve
their folders redirected with the policy as "basic" will changing to
advanced cause problems?
Anyone done this before?
Thanks,
Jeff

Default Domain Policy being applied to all domain computers
One of my clients has a situation where the default domain policy is being
applied to all computers within the domain. We can tell this by using
gpresult. Yet, in AD Users and Computers, the Default Domain Policy is only
linked to the domain controllers OU, and only the domain controllers are in
that OU.

trouble finding GPO causing Office 2003 restriction
Hello all. I've got a GPO that's been around since before me that locks some
semi-public computers down pretty good. The problem I have is that all
programs (firefox, notepad, adobe acrobat, etc.) seem to be able to the
desktop except Office programs (Word, Excel, PP, etc.). Whenever I try, I get
the error "The operation was canceled due to restrictions....blah blah blah".
I get this ...

I'm trying to lock down the desktop folder of all users on machines by

so I went with a File Security GPO via Active Directory for
simplicity. I'm trying to set the permissions for domain users and
not local users. The GPO sets file rights on the followin...

Planning A Group Policy Deployment
I'd like to start a thread concerning the high level planning for Group
Policy deployment. In my particular situation I have been given the
responsibility for deploying Group Policy (and AD) at a high school. While
there is a blizzard of information about GP, it is all referential - what
does this do, what does it effect, etc. I'm looking for a level 200 or 300
discussion about the pr...

Event ID 1054
I’ve been chasing an issue with a Windows 2003 based domain controller.
After running DCPROMO, I see a very large quantity of Event ID 1054, with
the SYSTEM as the user. These happen every 5 minutes or so, yet when the
twice daily Group Policy update occurs the event log shows that Group Policy
was applied successfully.
The error text reads "Windows cannot obtain the domain contro...

Windows Time Service: What if the PDC-role is moved?
Hi!
I'read that normally the first DC in the domain which holds the PDC-role is
also the authoritive time server. So this one should catch the time from the
internet and serve it to the clients in the domain.
What is, if the PDC role is moved from the first DC in the domain to another
DC? Will the first server be still the time server or will the new server be
the one?
Thanks for ...

Problem configuring proxy settings in IE7 via group policies
Hi everyone,
Apologies for the cross posting, I'm not entirely sure if this is a IE7
issue or a group policy issue.
I had a group policy that forces a few IE settings for all of our users.
This policy works fine for users on IE6, however for those on IE7 all of the
settings apply except the proxy settings. This is most frustrating as we are
trying to lockdown outgoing web access to a...
