Recently I've had 5 objects called System Folder appear in the 'Other' group on my file server (when viewing in groups in My Computer). They're sitting below the Control Panel icon with no description, no recongnized icon and only Cut | Create Shortcut and Delete as context menu selections. The thing is I can't delete them or open them. I have no idea what created them. Sounds batty but...

NTBackup errors due to path depth?
Hello, We have been experiencing ntbackup errors on our file server for a very long time now. We think it could have something to do with path depths that are too deap. Below the ntbackup error, the D: disk is an internal disk and the error ...

Hard Drive errors
Hi, I've been having data corruption issues for a few weeks now. I think I narrowed the problem down to one of my two hard drives that are configured for RAID1 on Volume0 and RAID0 on Volume1. These are two SATA hard drives within the Dell 9200 machine. There are no other hard drives. When I installed Windows 2003 Server, I supplied the iaStor.sys via the F6 third party RAID drive...

R2 DFS and 8.3 naming
I've been toying with the notion of disabling 8.3 naming on three of our file servers. All three participate in a R2 domain-based DFS and one of them hosts a stand-alone DFS that is nested in the domain-based DFS. I'm trying to determine if disabling 8.3 naming will negatively affect R2 DFS. I've found the following article Q290075 "Distributed File System Links May Not Be Visible W...

Quotas/File Ownership
Greetings, We're migrating all of our users' home drives from NetWare servers to MS W2K3 servers. We've set users to have a 2G quota for the drive with their home directories. The problem is that when we move the data over it does not apply towards their quota as they are not the owner. So, if a user already has close to 2 G in their home drive they now effectively have a 4 G limit...
