My Documents\RECYCLER What is this?
I noticed today that DFSR is having a problem replicating a file in a users "My Documents\RECYCLER" folder due to ongoing sharing violations. I don't know why I never noticed the RECYCLER folder before, but what is it doing under My Documents? I thought the RECYCLER folder is only found in the root of each partition? (Although Vista and Longhorn create a new one called $RECYCLE.BIN; but...

Recursively take ownership from command line / script
I am stumped. Here's the situation: A new user with a profile setting logs in and their profile is created on the server, according to the default settings the Administrators group is given no permissions on the profile folder. On occasion an admin needs to quickly do something inside the users profile. I have tried SetAcl.exe, subinacl.exe, xcacls.exe, xcacls.vbs and simply ca...

Lost access after cloning disk.
This may be tough one since it involves a 3rd party app but I'll try.... I have a 64 bit test machine that is triple booting (Windows XP x64, 2003 x64 and 2003 R2 x64). My SATA hard drive was running low on space so I bought a much larger one and added it to the second SATA channel. I then used Ghost Enterprise 8 to do a full disk-to-disk clone. When finished, I shut down the machine...

Server 2003 Outlook Calendar
Ok this is odd. We have 170 users on the Exchange server. Most use the public calendar to schedule events. The server is running 2003, and the user in question is using Outlook 2003. (we have several versions of Outllook throughout the facility) This one user can send and recieve email, open public folders, and even view the events calendar, Outlook is ONLINE, BUT cannot see any new...

Default security permissions in Server 2003 R2
We are currently configuring Server 2003 R2 for a new Domain in a test lab context prior to manually migrating our single corporate domain (on NT Server 4.0) to Active Directory etc. When we create a folder on a server we see that it acquires a security permission of Read & Execute for the group {domain}\Users, and another for the same group of Special Permissions, which allows Create Fo...

Windows 2003 R2 and DC's w/ Win2k3 w/out SP1
It is my understanding the Win2k3 R2 handles AD a little differently than Win2k3 w/out SP1. My questions are 1) Am I correct & 2) How does this affect the Windows 2003 R2 Storage OS?...

Cannot find network files via Search
Hello, My client uses a windows 2000 prof version, but has the problem when he tries to find files via a network share, he does not find them. Ie. he searches test.txt in H:\a\b\c\d\e\f\ and cannot find it. However, when he browses to this path, he can find the file and open it without any problem. But when he looks for the files and he "stands" in H:\a\b\c he cannot find it. I ...

Fatal error C000021a related to GoBack
I have a laptop running XP Pro SP2 with Norton SystemWorks 2006 Premier (including GoBack) installed. After this week's WinXP Hotfix installs GoBack hit a problem. I have tried unhooking GoBack and repairing the MBR using the GB_PROG utility from Symantec but now WinXP can't boot - it first says it can't find autochk then gives the STOP code c000021a Fatal System Error with status 0xc00...

Allocation Unit Size for Exchange/SQL Log Volume
Setting up some 2003-x64 servers that each have two SAN Volumes. One for the Database and one for the Logs (Exchange 2007 CCR and SQL 2005). SAN is HP EVA6000 using 15K FC drives. I can find lots of recommendations to use 64KB Allocation Unit Size for the database volumes on Exchange2007 / SQL2005, but nothing on the log volume (ie http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/01/15/432199.asp...
