LoadLibrary search order
Hi,
I used the file monitor tool to monitor the loading search order of about 400
DLLs. File monitor shows that the DLL is found (using the PATH environent
variable) after sixty tries for each DLL (File monitor shows NOT FOUND for
each failed try).
Does this have a high cost? is every searh does a disk access or just
windows used the master file table in memory?
Thanks,
Daniel

CHKDSK Hangs at 46 Percent
I have a SCSI drive that is hanging at 46 percent completed. Strangely,
SYSTEM event viewer log shows no particular SCSI events around this.
Normally I see a boatload of SCSI adapter messages of one kind or another
when the drive is bad.
What would this behavior indicate, and is there any likely workaround?

Recovering files
I downloaded a large file (2.7G) which took 10 hours in Internet Explorer.
In Internet Explorer, the file is downloaded "temporarily", and then when it
is finished downloading, it is copied to the directory you request. My
problem is that I downloaded the file, but when it tried to copy to my
requested location, it ran out of room and stopped. Can I go back and get

Mapping a directory to WEB: firewall / router ports
Hello All.
I need to map a directory in my computer that points to another machine
(lets call it Server) in the WEB.
That server is not in the same network, and we have full access to that
machine, so User and Password and any other needed config will be ok.
What I need to know is:
- What ports I should enable in router / firewall to allow my machine access
that Server?
- Is the...

If I move a file, is there a tool that can update all its shortcuts?
I have a collection of many files I want to be able to locate by
topic.
The files live in a tree. At the top of the tree are, say, folders
named Animals, Plants and Minerals. Animals contains subfolders Cats,
Dogs, etc. Plants contain Flowers, Trees, etc. Minerals contain Gems,
Rocks, etc.
If I have a file about both Cats and Gems, I can keep the file in
Cats, and put a shortcut to it i...

Discrepancy between group membership and Effective Permissions
Hi,
I have an AD environment containing a parent domain and a child domain. I
have created a Local security group in the parent domain (Group A) and nested
in this, a global security group from the child domain (Group B). I have
added a number of users to Group B from the child domain.
However, when I assign Read/Mod rights to Group A to a folder on my file

Traverse Directory Permissions
We’re in the process of migrating from Novell to Windows Server 2003. In
Novell when we grant permissions to the user groups at on a subdirectory they
automatically get permissions to the directories above so that they traverse
the file structure to gain access to the desired directory.
For example we grant Sam Smith permissions to the

Performance hit after large files copy
I'm running a certain search engine on a Windows 2003 server, with
1.5GB of RAM (which is enough for the processes). The search engine
uses a 15GB index. The index is updated about once an hour, using
this
method: an updated index is copied to a temporary directory from
another server; then the new and the old indexes are renamed so the
new becomes active; and finally the old is deleted.

Home Drive Architecture
I have ~30,000 users who's home drives we're going to migrate to a central
location? I'm trying to determine how best to layout these folders.
Ideally I would like to simply use \\server\share\%username%, but that would
create a folder with 30,000 folders in it. That seems like it would be hard
to manage, and might not be a good idea.
Other idea's I've had is to do \\server\share\%fi...
