Tune up in the olden days
"housetrained" <housetrained[ at ]hotmail.com> 24.06.2007 07:08:52
If I remember correctly, before Vista we could download a tune-up called one
care and it was free. Furthermore, at the end of the tune up the report
would show registry errors and you could click to correct them. This paid
for tune up does not mention anything about registry.

Just tried again - same thing it said no, and told me to check in a forum
with 0x04100407. What does that mean?

Yes, it still doesn't work. But that does not matter. I am asking does the
one care paid version check and repair registry during tune up like the old
free one did?
Perhaps it won't work because it can tell I've got the trial 90 day version
running?

I'm curious why Microsoft has avoided registry tools so much?
It's a known problem, fine, with a platform like "Ultimate" one would =
think they could honestly include a utlity for it.
I ran into trouble with One Care on both 32 & 64 bit versions of Vista =
with way too many disclaimers that pretty much made me feel it was not a =
good product to spend any money on.

No, the tune-up in the installed PC version does not include a Registry =

Thanks Steve, I'm waiting for the next service pack to see if Ultimate =

I can't answer why they've not included a registry cleaner in OneCare =
for the
PC, but I can tell you why I won't use them - they usually do more harm =

good.
OneCare 1.5/1.6 doesn't work on Vista x64, but the forthcoming 2.0 is =
