Is there a way to completely hide the window? I have a client who while writing an email, the box pops up, disappears, then the screen goes to the inbox. While not normally a problem, he's been complaining that when he's writing an email while starting at the keyboard, it'll happen and won't notice. He'll think he's finished the letter but it's happened and then has to click back to the email he was writing and finish. It's not that big of a deal to me but he says he didn't used to have this problem and he can complain pretty loudly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That dialog box should not be seen unless you click Send/Receive and certainly not while in a new message window.
You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it.

It's been years since I've used OE so I can't say that I remember but he claims that he never had this problem before. I shouldve mentioned that we did do an in place upgrade from XP Home to Pro so something might have happened to his profile. I'd like to avoid the disabling the autocheck if possible. I'll try the new profile and see what happens. Thanks for the help!

Damaged identities are a common issue with OE and it only takes a few minutes to create a new one. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~

I never see that dialog box when OE polls for messages regardless of the interval setting, and certainly never when in a new message window. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express ~IB-CA~

Hmm, you're right: I think I jumped to the "new mail" notification without thinking it thru. I just set it short and I do see it happen in the status bar, but that's all; nothing pops up on the screen.
To the OP: Sorry, looks like I started something on you; that was a wrong statement on my part. Now, to take a different tact, if OE has to dial and sign on every xx minutes, in that case you will see the popup. I used to have to keep my online minutes to a minimum, so I had OE drop the connection everytime it read mails and I'd do the answers etc. offline. But then when I clicked Send, since I was offline, the modem had to dial out again, and in that case you do see the popup happen. I don't have the gumption to verify that right now, but it used to work that way, I know. As long as you had OE open, if you were working offline, then you did see the popup after each time it goes online to check/send the mails. So it has to do with answering emails etc. in off line mode in the case I'm talking here. If you're not working offline, then of course none of it applies to you.
