Event ID 1054
Short on Time 05.06.2007 03:54:02
I’ve been chasing an issue with a Windows 2003 based domain controller.

After running DCPROMO, I see a very large quantity of Event ID 1054, with
the SYSTEM as the user. These happen every 5 minutes or so, yet when the
twice daily Group Policy update occurs the event log shows that Group Policy
was applied successfully.

The error text reads "Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for
your computer network. (An unexpected network error occurred. ). Group Policy
processing aborted."

There are no errors in the system logs indicating any network issues, and
when I issue a GPUPDATE command, policy is applied with no errors. IP
address is static, DNS is pointed to the static IP address, there are no
errors in the DNS logs, and no failures in the security logs.

I've gone through all the troubleshooting links I was able to find,
including KB933458.

I’ve deployed a lot of Windows 2003 servers and I’ve never seen this before.
Any suggestions or a patch for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Short on Time

Hello Short on time-

This sounds exactly like the problem I am having with my server, this
is my post:

Have you resolved this issue yet? I would appreciate any input you
might have. Thanks!
