Windows media player?

Tools > Options > Performance > Video Acceleration

Decrease the notch, hit Apply till the video shows.

Your video format must be WMV. I've tried working with mpg before and my
videos did the same thing. So, it is the video format.

They don't need to all be .wmv files. You just need the right codec for
whatever video files you're playing. The right codec depends on the file
type (among other things). You'd have to clue us in on the videos you're
tyring to play (e.g. the filename extension) in order for anyone to suggest
codecs you might try.
