According to WindowsXP, there is a user defined on my machine. However there is no profile and there are no registry entries for this user so where does Windows get the name of the user from?
The problem is that this user was added by my Anti-Virus software (Sophos) as part of its AutoUpdate feature. But there was a bug in that update and somehow I got left with this phantom user. This user seems to stop the Autoupdate working so I want to remove all trace of it (I've already uninstalled Sophos whilst I do this).
The user is listed by ...Control Panel, Admin. Tools, Computer Management, Users and Groups, Users... but any attempt to delete it merely hangs my box.
FWIW, the user is calls "SophosSAU<computername>3".
My tech. guys are trying to progress this with Sophos but hopefully someone here will be able to speed things along.
Thanks for any help or suggestions. Paul DS
