Folders w/photos are painfully slow Fred615 13.07.2007 04:00:01 A few months back I replaced my 1 gb CPU with a new Intel Core 2 CPU machine. Everything is o much faster now with one exception. When I click on a photo directory to get a detail listing of the 200 or so photos, it might take 10-15 seconds to show the detail list. On my old machine that would have taken only a second or two. If I then change the view from Detail to Thumbnail, it might take as much as 3-4 minutes to complete the process. Again, on my old machine that process would have taken just 10-20 seconds. A friend suggested that maybe McAfee AV was checking each and every file every time I accessed this folder. I did un-check something in McAfee relating to checking every file already resident on my machine and that improved the process by maybe 10%. But there is something still causing a bottleneck in displaying the thumbnails. Any ideas?

If the processor was the problem everything would be affected, not just one folder. (BTW: Your old processor was more likely 1 GHz, not 1 GB.)
