I use a PC running Windows XP SP2. Fully updated.
I currently have 25 Windows Media audio tracks saved in my 'My Music'
folder. None of them protected. Every few days or so, Windows (or some
program) will move one or two of these audio tracks, usually the same ones,
and place them in a folder called 'Unknown Artist.' Those audio tracks
still play fine, but this forces me to move them back with the rest of the
audio tracks. Then I delete the 'Unknown Artist' folder.
Why does this keep happening?

That's because the Artist is not listed in the song's properties.
Using Windows Explorer navigate to the specific song, rightclick it
and click Properties>Summary tab>Advanced. There you can edit
in the Artist name>Apply>OK out. Check the Properties of some of
your other songs on what info is in their Summaries.

up in the 'Unknown artist' folder. The artist's name was already listed.

What other programs are you running besides Windows Media Player?
If you are running WinAmp, MusicMatch Jukebox or RealPlayer, one of
them may be the culprit putting those files in the Unknown folder.

RealPlayer and QuickTime are the only other multimedia programs
installed on my PC. RealPlayer is configured to play Windows Audio Tracks.
Maybe I should change that to WMP 10 instead?

I went ahead and made WMP my default player for Windows Audio clips.
Then a few minutes later I used my computer's CD burner for a few minutes.
Afterwards, 4 audio tracks had been moved into 4 different 'Unknown Artist'
folders. So the above move didn't help.
Inside the My Music folder are some MP3 clips. I have since configured
WMP to open them now, instead of RealPlayer. We'll see if that makes any
difference. Now every audio clip in the My Music folder is configured to be
opened by WMP.

Try using Roxio 9, Easy Media Creator. If you want to find out more about
this program, go to
www.roxio.com. I've had this about three months, and started using it over a
month ago. So far I've hard no problems.

Didn't make any difference. A new Windows Audio file that I
downloaded from Wal-Mart.com today was just moved into the 'Unknown Artist'
folder.
