I have moved the "Program Files" folder to a big hard-disk and then created a junction to it (of cource these two actions can only be performed from a second installation of windows):
linkd "c:\Program Files" "d:\programs"
Everything works excellent with this new configuration (I've been using it for more than an year). Programs will not even notice the change.
Unfortunately some very-very rare installators will destroy the junction and create an empty folder "C:\Program Files" and then install to it. They do this even when the folder is in use.
Q: Can I make a junction undestroyable and imune to such installers?
Another example: I had moved and created a junction "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET" to d:\NET a long time ago. NET framework has been reinstalled since and there is no longer a junction. Setup had removed the link. I want to prevent this.
