Drop-outs in audio when PC is connected to receiver using USB
Theo 03.07.2007 21:52:02
I own a Pioneer VSX-D2011 multi-channel receiver. Some time ago I decided to
try the USB port on my receiver. I bought a USB cable of about 10 foot long
and connected the receiver to my PC. At first I was very happy because the
sound was fantastic! Finally I was able to use my PC as my personal radio
station! :-)

But after a couple of minutes I noticed a drop-out in the music. Maybe it's
just a hiccup in my media player, I was thinking. But after a minute or so
there was another drop-out, and another, and they kept on coming at random
intervals.

My question to you guys on this board: do you have experience with this
problem? And if so, is there anything I can do about it? Is there a setting I
need to adjust on my PC, or do I need an other cable? I've already searched
the Internet for an answer to my question, but to no avail. :-(

Some extra information for you guys: When my Pioneer is connected to my
computer with USB I see it appear on my PC as "USB Audio CODEC". There is not
much you can set in the mixer except for volume and panning. There are
separate sliders for wave and cd playback though and for overall volume.

I've looked everywhere for properties that could alter some kind of memory
buffer for playback for the USB Audio CODEC device but could not find them.

Finally: the sound card I'm using is SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS.

If you have suggestions for solving this problem I would be glad to hear
about them.

Best wishes,
Theo

Sounds (!) like a hardware problem.

The USB Audio Codec is built into your soundcard.

For explanations, see this (halfway down) :
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/585789-usb-audio-codec.html

or trawl through this lot :
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&ie=utf8&oe=utf8&q=USB+Audio+Codec+

Also, try it on a friends PC - do you get the same results ? If so you have
a problem in the Pioneer. If no issues then your soundcard is either nazz or
can't handle the input from the receiver.

Cheers,
Jerry
