Does your mini dv cvamcorder have analogue inputs? If so, you could maybe use the minidv as a pass through device or you may need to record to the mini dv tape then capture to pc. In my experience the recordings made by household dvd recorders are poor in comparison to those that you can attain using your pc. For anything that you want to watch at a much later date I'd opt for quality and time on my pc over the speed of the dvd recorder.
