Cannot create a XPE image
Deniz 05.07.2007 13:26:05
Hello,
I would like to build a Windows XP live CD with Turkish keyboard (OS is
Dutch).
I am not a very advanced user, but I followed the instructions step by step.
First I installed a second hard disc on my machine. My first HD had already
2 partitions, so that was the third one.
Then I followed the instructions step by step:
1-Set up the Development system
2-Create a component for target devices
3-Create a new configuration
4-Update the configuration settings
5-Check dependencies
6-Build the Windows XP Embedded Run-Time Image
7-Deploy the Windows XP Embedded Run-Time Image. And here exactly my problem
begins.
Because after selecting and dragging all files and directories in the build
directory I tried to restart my system. But it didn`t work. I tried to
restart in The Windows XP Embedded system and it really began to boot and
setup some settings. But then it returned to the starting point, where I have
to run my system (select between Windows XP and Windows XPE.

Could someone tell me, what I`m doing wrong?
I really followed the tutorials, both video streaming and written
description again and again. I am following exactly all instructions. I am
anyway not a big technical expert and now I don`t know how to continue.
Because without rebooting Windows XPE I cannot continue, cannot make a
bootable CD Rom.

Hi Deniz,

I don't really understand your question. Did you mean your XP Pro cannot
reboot after copying XPE image to your secondary HDD? Or you cannot boot into
XPE after rebooting XP Pro?

Dear Ethan Chen,

I have no problems to boot my regulary Windows XP professional.
I am not able to boot the created XP embedded.
First everything looks great. I can have the choice to boot between XP pro
or XPE. After choosing XPE it really begins to boot and setup the OS. But
then it returns to the boot screen, thus I am again ending up on the screen
where I can choose between XP pro and XPE.
This is a never ending procesedure.
But normally it should boot in XPE and I should make the necessary
configurations.

So, what am I doing wrong or how can I solve this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Best regards
Deniz

Hi Deniz,

Since you were using dual boot OS, did you change you "Target Device
Settings"? You boot driver should be "E".

Dear Ethan Chen,

yes I did, my target device is "E".
So that couldn`t be the issue?
Best regards
Deniz

Hi Deniz,

So your target device setting was multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1) and
XPE just boot failed. If you can provide build log, it would be helpful to
address your problem.

Dear Ethan Chen,
as you know I am not a technical expert at all and at this moment I have no
clue, how to find the log files.
But I will look around, find it out and send it to you.
I write this just for your information.
Thanks for your efforts in advance.

Best regards
Deniz
