cannot open jpg file
"C.M.G." <cmg[ at ]ohiorepromed.moc> 12.07.2007 03:03:20

windows xp pro sp2

I have a jpg file with a particularly long name, and whereas I can select
it, I cannot open or rename it. Any idea how I can rescue it?

Thanks,

Clem.

Check the file properties to see if it is Read only.

Don,

Thanks for the reply. No, it is not "read only." When I right click it, the
context menu does not offer "properties." When I go to file/properties, the
properties window is completely empty (although the file name is shown in
the title bar of that window).

Clem.

Dear --,

Thanks for your reply. After understanding the problem, I simply copied the
folder containing the file in question to a directory closer to the root
directory. Then I renamed the file with a shorter name and copied the folder
back to the original directory location -- no more problems.

Clem.
