Incomplete .wmv not streamable.
"janefield2002[ at ]yahoo.com" <janefield2002[ at ]yahoo.com> 09.07.2007 07:13:39
Hi,

I record tv shows programmatically with my windows media encoder.
Sometimes, I shutdown my recording program and there is consequently
and incomplete .wmv file.

I CAN open the file on the desktop by using "open". However, it seems
that the file is not indexed, since I cannot drag the pointer (fast
forward) the show.

The problem is that accessing it through the URL via mms. is
impossible. I get a message that says "Windows Media Player" cannot
find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync and item that
is in your library, it might point to a file that has been moved,
renamed or deleted."

Thanks!

As you pointed, probably the problem is that the file is not correctly
indexed when the encoding program crashes.
You can rebuild the index using the 'Windows Media File Editor'. This
utility comes with the WMEncoder.
Simply open the corrupted file and choose 'Save and index' from the
File Menu.

Thank you Vegethalia.

The thing is I also want an "incomplete" file to be streamable. This
is because I do not want to wait till the full file is saved to disk
(and indexed) before I can see it...

Why does it need to be indexed if it is to be streamed? This process
is automated, so I cannot use windows media encoder.

Thank you!
