Adding a proxy between WME and WMS
"Jill Shadow" <Jill.Shadow[ at ]hotmail.com> 09.07.2007 09:01:25
Hi,

Does anyone knows if it is possible to change the stream number (in a
multi-bitrate publishing point) from a proxy?
I have a proxy located between WME and WMS and want to forward just one
stream at the time, taking control over Microsoft intelligent-streaming.

Thanks in advance,

Jill.

You didn't say quite what you are intending to do (or why).
Please can you re-state the question ?

From what I can see WMS requests all streams in a multibirate encoding. What
I am trying to achieve is to send the WMS the most appropriate stream.
In other words, can I have a proxy that requests only one stream from the
WME and forwards this stream to WMS?

Hope this is better.

Best,
Jill.

OK, that's the wrong way round. The connection between WME and WMS
needs to be adequate to send all the MBR content at the same time,
which is the intention of MBR. If you cannot sustain that data rate,
you need to improve your infrastructure, or stop using MBR and encode
a single stream at a rate you can support.

The correct way round is WME -> WMS has enough bandwidth to send all
the MBR data. Then the media player clients connecting to WMS
negotiate with the server to select one of the MBR streams which is
appropriate for the bandwidth available to the player.

No, and I'm afraid your idea doesn't really make much sense ;-)

Just send a single stream from the encoder and drop the MBR idea if
you don't have the bandwidth upstream to support that scenario. WME
doesn't have any of the stream select capability which WMS supplies to
players.
