DVD plays with distorted sound/video, others fine...
Rililk 15.06.2007 04:31:00
I just recently bought a DVD box set and all the DVDs play with distorted
audio and video on my computer. Other dvds play just fine but this particular
box set doesnt, there are no scratches on the disks, all drivers/players are
up to date. On top of that, they play FINE in my home dvd player hooked up to
my television... anyone got any ideas?

the drive is a Lite-on SOHC-5236V btw

That's in "DVD Player"?? (not really a Mac WMP question then ;-) ).

Can you play it properly in VLC Media Player??

my computer is a PC, am i in the wrong forum then? sorry if i am...

The dvd does the same as described in VLC, the pre-menu segments and menu
segments appear and sound fine. once i choose an episode or press play from
the start menu, the video is distorted, appears pixelated and grey or green
in some areas at random, and the sound is just as distorted, with on-time, or
too fast instances. Another thing to mention is the light on the DVDrom
blinks in unison with the activities on the screen, (ie constant video and
sound distortion). All DVDs have NO scratches whatsoever... does this help
some more?

The name of the forum is microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player.mac
(emphasis on the last three letters ;-) ),

Really weird. VLC doesn't use the same framework as WMP (I assume then
that you used WMP to play your DVD on Windows). I wonder what in the
DVD would make *both* fail.

Try to clean the DVD (always from the center to the periphery and
preferably with one of these microfiber cloths designed to clean LCD
screens).Don't EVER put any solvent on it,

It could still be something to small for your eye to notice but big
enough to interfere with the laser.
