Vidos No Playing

For example. When I click on a news vidio, it will not play. It seems like
there is something wrong with Internet Explorer or something. It just locks
up. Can anyone help me with this problem, or if I am not in the right group,
could you point me in the right direction

Well, it's hard to tell from your problem description. Are the videos
playing inside a web page ? If so, what's the web address that you
copy and paste from the web browsers' address bar ?

If the videos are windows media, then right-click on the video error
and write down anything listed as "Error details" if that's not greyed
out (and post the result here).

It would help to know what operating system you have, and if this is
windows media video, then what version of media player you have (WMP
menu Help -> About windows media player can tell you that).

If it's flash video then make sure you have the most recent version of
flash player installed, which yhou can get from here :
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

Neil,

I have downloaded the latest players. Direct x and all. The web site,
which is my home page is www.bellsouth.com. Thats where I try to play the
news vidios. I have the 2 package with XP. Maybe when I said NO vidios
would play I should have said on this web site, and also the weather channel.
Something is not set up right I guess. Any more ideas

Sorry, I can't see any videos on that page, they must be somewhere
else. Please copy and paste the page address from your browser of the
page you're trying to view the videos on. If it's a login only site,
please find another site where you can reproduce the problem.

Neil,

Go to WWW.weather.com and click on their vidio. It will bring up vidio on
demand. I still just set there witha frozen screen. I do notice a little
box at the bottom that says CPU Usage 100%. Must be something there I would
guess.

Tks again.

OK that page specifically uses real player. It worked fine here on my
400mhz celeron test box, so it's not lilkely to be CPU bound on a
modern PC.

One thing to ensure is that you've got the most recent real player
available - some PCs come with it preinstalled but it's a very old
version like Real 8. You can get the latest real player from the
right-hand button at http://www.real.com/realplayer.html

Then in your Start menu, find the Real Player (not windows media
player) icon, and start the standalone.

From the menus there, choose Tools -> Preferences.
Go to General -> Playback settings

Make sure 'Pausing and seeking' is ticked, as well as 'Cache on-demand
streams' and 'Turbo play'.

Extend the buffering time from 30 to 60 seconds, which will delay
startup but give your PC a better chance of playing back the video
uninterrupted from the hard disk instead of directly from the possibly
slow network stream.

Now go to the Connection tab, and try the Test Connection button.
Usually the recommended values are OK, but like media player sometimes
the test isn't accurate - so turn up the settings there to *at least*
400kbps (say with DSL/Cable 512 or 768kbps) because those clips run at
around 400kbps and you need some overhead.
