C00D11B1 Error - Help!
whynot 26.06.2007 17:37:13
I have been plagued by the error on and off since i upgraded to Vista
(ultimate).
What i do know is:
- occurs with Video files
- only occurs with files that are DRM protected
- the file itselft is fine in that it can be viewed via Real Player
What I have tried so far:
- renamed the drm file
- updated 'security' components (completed successfully)
- updated my audio driver
- changed several WMP 11 setting (suggested by others)
"UPD", Connect to Network, "use device exclusively"
Finally, is there no way to repair WMP?
Many of the video download services eg. Cinemanow appear to use WMP
exclusively.
I do know that re-installing Vista will solve the problem, but a high price
to pay.
Any help will really be appreciated. Looks like lots of folks are
experiencing this.

Please see if this resolves the issue for you:

========================================
Vista-only: Some systems have "DisableProtectedAudioDG" set to 0x1 under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Audio , which
will break some audio playback. Reset that to 0x0 and Urge files should work
again. (This can lead to error 0xc00d11b1 if set wrong.)
========================================

It's from http://www.zachd.com/pss/pss.html

No guarantees but you did say DRM'd content was at issue and the error
number is correct for this being a possible solution.

Let us know either way (works or doesn't work for you).

Mike,
Thanks. Yes the only content that fails is Video content that is DRM
protected.
I play the video content from the web page, which somehow envokes WMP 11.
I have tried changing the DisableProtected registry entry, still fails.
The last time that this occurred i eventually had to reload Vista,
But that seems like an extreme measure.
Andy help will be apprecitated.

The DRM'd content is going to be Windows Media format, which means WMP will
play it.

Can you provide me with a link to the content that's giving you problems?
Maybe I can come up with something on how they're redirecting or using
relative paths, etc.

Just so you know, there's another way for that error to appear, I found it
today. If you are playing content from a playlist that uses a relative path.
Meaning that the content is in this folder:
c:\my music\Joes's Ragtime Band\Hoot and Hollar\{music here}

and the playlists are here:
c:\my music\my playlists\{playlist here}

The author can do this for the music:
...\..\Joes's Ragtime Band\Hoot and Hollar\01 Kickin' and a Stompin.WMA

and the content will typically play.

The ..\ means "go back one folder" so the above path tells WMP to go two
folders back and then down two OTHER folders to the content. It means "play
in relation to where I, as the playlist, exist".

Unless the file is in a location that the player cannot determine. Then
you'll get one of two errors C00D11B1, or C00D1199.

I actually have two playlists the only difference is the content type. The
interesting thing is that both of them indicate that it's an audio device
problem with a possible DRM issue.

Hi Mike, I am getting the same error. It is occuring with tracks that I
dowloaded from both the URGE and Yahoo Music service. I have an All Access
To Go subscription with URGE and any content I download will not play. WMP11
takes me to the C00D11B1 error...I tried the registry fix (changed the key
from 1 to 0) and I still get the error. Please advixe if you have any new
ideas.

Thanks!

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your assistance. After yours and many of the other suggestions
failed to work in this situation, i succumbed to a re-install of Vista.
Solved the problem immediately. Was going to attempt to save registry
before/after and find a compare utility. I do think that one or more registry
entries were changed.
Don't know if i mentioned it, but real player will play the video correctly.
I believe that real player uses some portion of Microsoft's Drm components.

Similar problems did exist with Windows Media Player 11 under Windows XP.
But under XP, WMP could be uninstalled, re-installed, or repaired. No option
to do that under vista, as WMP is now integrated into the operating system.
Microsoft should consider some sort of repair option.
