Group Policy Administrative Templates?
"Jeff Teel" <jdteel[ at ]RMoveThis sugardog.com> 10.07.2007 23:53:03
In the past I have used Group Policy to set the screen saver on workstations
to come on after 10 minuets of idle time and also require a password to get
back into the user account. Currently there is no Control Panel/Display
folder under Administrative Templates for User Configuration. Can someone
tell me why I cannot see that folder as well as other folders in this area
now? When I look at Current Templates the system template is in the list!

Thanks
Jeff

Hello,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that you cannot find Control Panel/Display
folder under Administrative Templates for User Configuration. If I am
off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Please take the following steps to see if the problem can be resolved.

1. Open Group Policy you edited.
2. Migrate to User Configuration/ Administrative Templates.
3. Right click Administrative Templates and select Add/Remove Templates.
4. Select system and click Remove.
5. Right click Administrative Templates and select Add/Remove Templates.
6. Click ADD, input C:\Windows\inf\system.adm
7. Click OK and check again.

Hope the information helps.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

Hi Robert,

After I made the post yesterday evening I removed the system.adm template
and then added it back again but the other folders are still not showing
under Administration. Currently the only folder that shows in all of the
Group Policy Objects that I have added only show Windows Components and 2
GPO's have Windows Components and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003.

I did notice that if I type gpedit.msc in the run box on the server that
eight folders appear under User Configuration/Administrative folder. Those
folders are:

Windows Components
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
Desktop
Control Panel
Start Menu and Task Bar
Shared Folders
Network
System

I don't know just when they "dis-appeared" since I haven't attempted to
adjust any of my custom GP settings for some time.

This is on SBS 2003 SP1 that is patched except for Windows Server SP2 and
IE7.

Thanks
Jeff

Thanks for the tip serge! I had considered doing that earlier but didn't
think the solution would be that easy. It was though and I am able to see
the missing templates now and can make adjustments to my GPO's.

Thanks Again
Jeff

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I checked the system.adm file, the file is ok and the problem can not be
reproduced.

Please try the following steps:

Please run the command and register dll file.

regsvr32 gptext.dll

Reboot server and see if the problem can be resolved.

Best regards,

Microsoft CSS Online Newsgroup Support

Get Secure! - www.microsoft.com/security

=====================================================

This newsgroup only focuses on SBS technical issues. If you have issues
regarding other Microsoft products, you'd better post in the corresponding
newsgroups so that they can be resolved in an efficient and timely manner.
You can locate the newsgroup here:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx

When opening a new thread via the web interface, we recommend you check the
"Notify me of replies" box to receive e-mail notifications when there are
any updates in your thread. When responding to posts via your newsreader,
please "Reply to Group" so that others may learn and benefit from your
issue.

Microsoft engineers can only focus on one issue per thread. Although we
provide other information for your reference, we recommend you post
different incidents in different threads to keep the thread clean. In doing
so, it will ensure your issues are resolved in a timely manner.

For urgent issues, you may want to contact Microsoft CSS directly. Please
check http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers.

Any input or comments in this thread are highly appreciated.

<Thanks for the tip serge! I had considered doing that earlier but didn't
