The following message appears when trying to access the company internal website or the remote web workplace:
"Server Application Unavailable The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.
Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur."
Where are the logs it is talking about and how do I fix this?

Hello Rich,
Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
From your description, I know that when you visit Companyweb and RWW, you get the error
"Server Application Unavailable The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request."
If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Rich, please understand that our newsgroup is an issue based service, meaning we usually respond to one question/issue per post. This will lessen the confusion for both of us, as well as ensure that our results are accurate and not a result of a test for a different question. Since we're not sure whether these issues are related, I suggest we focus on the first question in this post. If the 2nd problem persists after we resolve the 1st one, please open a new post here for further discussion.
Here we will focus on companyweb issue first.
Please let me know the following to make the situation more clearly:
1. When do you visit companyweb? Please try on SBS server, will the same issue occur? 2. Can you visit other sites such as OWA?
Please take the following steps to see if the problem can be resolved:
Step 1: This is caused by some incorrect setting in Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1.
To resolve this, please check the following:
1. Click Start - Administrative Tools - Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 Wizards 2. Click Adjust .NET Security 3. Select "Make changes to this computer" and click Next. 4. Set all levels back to default. To do this, select My Computer and then click the Default Level button. 5. Repeat for 'Local Intranet', 'Internet', 'Trusted Sites', and 'Untrusted Sites'. 6. Click Next and Finish 7. Run iisreset.
Step 2: Please rerun the CEICW, this helps us to cofigure network conrrectly:

Step 3: Please ensure in IIS the following web sites is running:
1. Open Internet Information Services Manger. 2. Migrate to SBSSERVER/Web Sites. 3. Check if Default Web Site and Company is running. 4. If not, please right click and select Start.
Step 4: Please check the identity for the application pool, follow these steps:
1. On the SBS server, click Start, click Run, type "inetmgr" and click OK. 2. Expand your server\Application Pools, right-click DefaultAppPool and click Properties. 3. On the Identity tab, select Network Service on the Predefined accounts list. 4. Click OK.
Step 5: 1. All Windows Small Business Server Website and Virtual Directories work only with .Net Framework 1.1. If you use ASP.2.0, please check at to .Net Framework 1.1.
- Default website
- Exchange (OWA)
- Remote (RWW)
- ActiveSync
- OMA and all
- Companyweb
- SharePoint Central Administration
If the problem persists, please help me collect the following information for further research:
1. MPS Report
1) Download MPS report tool from: http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9 15706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE 2) Run the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.exe on the server box. 3) Wait for 10~15 minutes. 4) Open Windows explorer, navigate to %SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\cab\ 5) Send the .cab file to us.
2. Gather IIS log:
1) Open IIS snap-in. 2) Right click Default Web Site and click Properties. 3) Uncheck the "Enable Logging" box and click Apply. 4) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder and move all files to a backup location. 5) Check "Enable Logging" box and click OK. 6) Run IISReset command. 7) Reproduce the problem and send the log file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder to me for research.
3. Gather IIS Metabase:
1) Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73- B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en 2) Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer) 3) Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file". 4) Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export. 5) Send the file and the password to v-robeli[ at ]microsoft.com with subject: 39846401-Server Application Unavailable.
I am looking forward to hear from you.
If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Thanks for the reply. The first step about reseting the default levels fixed both problems. I will hang on to your reply in case anything else go wrongs.

Solution:
For future postings, I would like to list the following information as a guideline when submitting new posts in the future. This information will help us to understand the issue and situation more quickly. Thank you!
1. Has the server/client/product ever worked? 2. If so, what changed? 3. What service packs and updates were applied? 4. What are the steps to reproduce the problem? 5. Does it happen the same way on any other systems? 6. Please provide the exact error message with any screenshots, if possible.
If you need any assistance in the future, please feel free to post in our newsgroup.
