Admin rights for upload/download WSS 2.0
Thosti <stgroups[ at ]gmx.de> 24.06.2007 11:06:48
Hello,

I have a sharepoint site (WSS 2.0) where users which are in reader,
member or
administration websitegroup can upload and download files bigger than
5MB. Two other users which are members of all three websitegroups
can't upload or download files which are bigger than almost 5MB.
These two users are server administrators, so normaly they could do
anything they want.
Here are the errors when domain administrators try to upload or
download big
files:

1. When uploading a big file there is an error: validation error in
form. Can not create file "upld"
2. When doing "save as" a file from companyweb there is an error:
Could not open website.Site is not reachable or could not be found.
3. When open the file directly in office application there is an
error: http://companyweb/... could not be open. Unkown path or
filename.

Thanks for reply,
Thosti

They aren't logging in with their domain admin right accounts when they
are working are they? One should only use domain admin accounts only
for working on the domain for things that need maintenance. On a day to
day basis they need to use a normal user account.

Hello Susan,
thanks for reply.
I know it isn't so good to log on with admin rights, but these two
persons has domain admin rights and local admin rights.
Is there a similar behavior at every WSS when somebody is logged in
with domain admin rights?
Why is a domain admin having fewer rights than normal user in WSS?

Is there a chance to keep these user rights and change settings in
WSS?

While going on testing this issue I created new users with admin
template and another one with power user template on sbs server. Both
users get the descriped errors.
Users created with mobile user template and user template don't have
these problems.

Thanks for any reply,

The problem is solved for me.
It occures when a user is in Sharepoint Administrator group.
I have deleted Domain Power Users Security Group from Sharepoint
Admin group (SBS SP Admins). Then I changed the admin account from the
concerned two persons into Power user account.

I don't know why this error happens for admin and power user accounts.
One theory is that users which can login into sharepoint db directly
have these problems in upload/download files which are bigger than 5MB

Can anybody else confirm some similar behavior?
