Hi
sbs 2003 premium with isa 2000. I have installed sbs sp1 standard (excluding ISA 2004 sp1) and now I can not open either ISA 2000 Management or Routing and Remote Access consoles. I get the errors 'MMC cannot open the file C:\.....\MSISA.MSC' and 'MMC cannot open the file C:\...\rrasmdmt.msc' respectrively. What is the problem and how can I fix it?
Thanks
Regards

Hello John,
Thank you for posting here.
According to your description, I understand that you cannot open ISA and RRAS consoles after you install SBS 2003 sp1. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, there are 2 possibly reasons relate to this issue: the installation of SBS 2003 sp1 corrupted MMC dll files or the installation did not update MSISA.MSC and rrasmdmt.msc correct. I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:
Suggestion 1: This issue may occur when one or more of the .dll files that are used by the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) are missing or corrupted: Msxml.dll Msxml2.dll Msxml3.dll
To resolve this issue, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd , and then click OK. 2. At the command prompt, type cd %windir%\system32 , and then press ENTER.
Note: The %Windir% folder is the folder where you installed Microsoft Windows.
3. Type the following commands, and press ENTER after each command: Regsvr32 Msxml.dll Regsvr32 Msxml2.dll Regsvr32 Msxml3.dll 4. Type exit , and then press ENTER to close the Command Prompt window. 5. Restart the computer to test this issue.
Suggestion 2: The installation did not update MSISA.MSC and rrasmdmt.msc correct Please try to install the SBS 2003 sp1 again:
Downloading and Installing Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1 http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/0/f/e0fee8ce-768d-41c0-8871-9bc48e0 b3fc3/ToDownLoadFilesandReadInstructions.htm
If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Can you open other consoles, like dnsmgmt.msc, services.msc or compmgmt.msc?
2. Please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures to me at v-terliu[ at ]microsoft.com
3. Please collect the Setup MPS report for analyze:
a. Please download the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE from the following link and then run this tool to gather some information from the problematic computer: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=cebf3c7c-7ca5-408f- 88b7-f9c79b7306c0&displaylang=en
b. Double-click on the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE file. [Note] This process may take some time; however, it will not have a negative effect on the performance.
c. A CAB file will be generated in the %systemroot%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\Cab directory called %COMPUTERNAME%_MPSReports.CAB. The CAB file will contain the reports generated by the MPS Reporting Tool.
Please send all files to my mailbox: v-terliu[ at ]microsoft.com
Hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)
