lsass.exe using 50% CPU
David 03.07.2007 18:36:00
Win2003SBS R1 all SPs. Recently lsass.exe has begun to use excessive amounts
of processor time. Eventually the server slows to a virtual halt and all
conectivity is lost (is probably related to my query re: TCP/IP services
earlier). Multiple errors regarding the lack of accessibility to the DC and
AD appear in the logs and shortly after a restart is required.

Panda AdminSecure is installed as the AV and the major application is an
internally built Access Database. Extensive use is made of Exchange email,
reminders and Contacts linked directly into Outlook from the client end of
this DB application.

Hi David,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know you have the following problem:

1. Lsass.exe has begun to use excessive amounts
of processor time.

2. Eventually the server slows to a virtual halt and all
connectivity is lost.

3. Multiple errors regarding the lack of accessibility to the DC and AD
appear in the logs and shortly after a restart is required.

This is a critical and complex issue, also your business is affected, a
suggestion to call CSS directly. Thanks for your understanding.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

Hi David,

Also, before call CSS, you can try the following steps:

Step 1: Please make a clean boot on SBS server to make sure the problem is
not caused by some third party software.

1. Click Start->Run...->type msconfig and press Enter.
2. Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable
All third party Services.
3. Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items.
4. Click OK and choose Restart.
5. After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs.
6. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue

Step 2: The problem may be caused by anti virus software, please temporally
uninstall Panda AdminSecure, then check again.

Step 3: Pleas read the following KB:

Installing security update MS05-019 or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
may cause
network connectivity between clients and servers to fail
