Swing Migration non R2 media and SP2
Andrew 10.07.2007 15:46:01
I'm going to start a new swing migration soon (have done many successfully).
I will be using the client's existing SBS Premium media which is not R2. I'm
wondering if I should apply Windows Server 2003 SP2 at all though this
process or just install all updates except for SP2.

Any thoughts?

Please let me know.

Andrew

SP2 should be the very last thing...and make sure you do all your homework
regarding the issues surrounding SP2

I probably won't install it then until SBS SP2 is released.

Is there a way of stopping Microsoft Update from wanting to download and
install SP2? I have Auto update set to Off.

We don't have any reason to believe that there will be SBS specific SP2
You can check a box in Microsoft update to ignore it from future checks

Hi Cris,

Thanks for your help.

I've got SP2 turned off in Microsoft Download.

The clients existing SBS box has never had SP1 or other updates applied to
it. The software I am using for the migration is there original SBS software
Pre-SP1.

Should I patch the existing box to all of the current updates (W2K3-SP1,
EX2K3SP2...) prior to performing the migration? I usually would do this, but
all of my previous migrations have been with new R2 media because they were
volume license clients. This particular client has the Retail Box Product
Upgrade software.

Please let me know.

Andrew
