Unable to install Godaddy cert on SBS R2 Standard box
"John" <nospam[ at ]hotmail.com> 21.05.2007 03:04:10
I am trying to install a public cert from Godaddy (Turbo SSL) onto my
clients SBS R2 Box. I can't get beyond the part where I point to the
directory where I have the .crt file. When I choose the file the next
button is greyed out and the message above says: The pending certificate
request for this reponse was not found. This request may be canceled. You
cannot install selected response certificate using this wizard. I contacted
a Godaddy tech who was very helpful and was familiar with the process. We
started from scratch several times and reissued the key 3 times but still
the same error. I generated the request from the Default Website.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what I should be looking for?

TIA

John

Hi John,

Thanks for posting here.

From the description, I understand the issue is that you get an error when
you install the certificate issued by Godaddy. If I am off base, please
don't hesitate to let me know.

Let us refer to the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Please create a new request, and request for a new certificate from
Godaddy(issue a new certificate),then install the new certificate. Don't
use the old request and corresponding certificate file.

if there were any changes made after the request and before obtaining the
certificate - the issue may happen. So not to do any changes to the server
before you get the certificate
from Godaddy.

More infomation:

You receive a "Page cannot be displayed" error message when you try to
access a site by using HTTPS

Have a nice day!

Hi Jacky,

In reference to :

"Please create a new request, and request for a new certificate from
Godaddy(issue a new certificate),then install the new certificate. Don't
use the old request and corresponding certificate file."

I have done that 3 times. I did not make any changes while waiting for the
cert which arrived within seconds of the request.

Re: Unable to install Godaddy cert on SBS R2 Standard box
v-jaluo[ at ]online.microsoft.com ("Jacky Luo [MSFT]") 23.05.2007 10:25:10
Hi John,

Thanks for posting back.

I suspect the root cause is that the certificate is not installed on the
local server.

To install a certificate in Certificate Server, let's follow these steps:

1. Open the Internet Services Manager and expand the server name so that
you can view the Web sites.
2. Right-click the Web site that you created the certificate request for,
and click Properties.
3. Click the Directory Security tab. Under Secure Communications, click
Server Certificate.
This opens the Certificate Installation Wizard. Click Next to continue.
4. Select Process the pending request and install the certificate and click
Next.
5. Type the location of the certificate that you downloaded, and then click
Next.
The Wizard displays the Certificate Summary. Verify that the information is
correct, and then click Next to continue.
6. Click Finish to complete the process.

After installing the certificate on the local machine, this certificate
should be trusted by the Trusted Authority and we should no longer receive
the error when running the CEICW Wizard.

If issue persists,Please refer to the following steps to see if it
helps, regarding intermediate certificate,Please consult to godaddy.

I will summarize process for anyone else who might be trying to install a
certificate from godaddy.
1. Within IIS, remove the publishing certificate.
2. Create a new certificate request.
3. Submit the request to godaddy and get the certificate.
4. Install the intermediate certificate (open MMC, add the certificates
snap-in, and import the sf_issuing.cer certificate into Intermediate
Certificates). The intermediate certificate can be downloaded from
godaddy's web site.
5. After installing the intermediate certificate (it will not work if you
do not), run the CEICW and specify the certificate that was sent to you.
Finish the wizard as normal.

In addition,do you use crt file? not cer file? Please use cer file from
godaddy.

Hope this helps

Have a nice day!

I was able to resolve my issue:

When you receive the file from Godaddy it is in a .crt file and Windows is
looking for a .cer. This has not been a problem for my other servers except
this one. I spoke with a Goddday tech and he just said to rename the
extension to what windows is looking for. As soon as I did that everything
worked.

Couldn't you just click the Look for files of type dropdown and select *.*
then select the cert file? Or am I missing something. I don't see the
previous posts on this so forgive me if I'm clueless.

Hi Edwin,

Yes that is what I have done in my previous installs including this one.
However when I chose the file this way it didn't accept it. That is when I
renamed the extension and then it worked.

R2 must be more restrictive than R1. I installed a GoDaddy cert this way
without renaming it. AHA! Another Microsoft Gotcha!

Hello!

Do the GoDaddy Turbo SSL certs work with SBS 2003 to allow access to Outlook
via RPC, RWW, and also for Smartphone?

Thank you!

Yes. (Smartphone trust list must include Godaddy or similarly capable)

Hi Gregg,

Yes the Turbo is accepted by IE7 and Smartphones running Mobile 5 and up.
You can resell them to your clients for a good markup and it reduces all the
service calls when the clients get a new phone or reset the current one and
you have to go onsite to install the cert.

That is was why I started to install the Turbo cert. I like how you can buy
a 10 yr one for cheap.

John

John,

I recently bought a ten year Turbo SSL cert, but I want to rebuild my server
before I request the cert file. Then I want to get the new XV-6800 phone
from Verizon...if the dang thing ever comes out.

It will also make RWW and OWA a lot smoother for clients.
