Still having RWW problems
"Homer Jay" <someoneelse[ at ]microsoft.com> 05.07.2007 14:22:05
I am still unable to connect to RWW on my client desktops (either inside or
outside the LAN)....... the clients are listed in the connect to client
section but when I click connect I get the following message:

Connectivity to the remote computer could not be established. Ensure that
the remote computer is on and connected to the Windows Small Business Server
network.

So I followed the directions at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886209 but
could find nothing listening on port 4125.

I checked on the client computer and I have "Allow users to connect remotely
to this computer" checked, I also made sure I had the users listed under
users who are allowed to connect.

I can connect to the server remotely, using RWW. So figure it must be
something to do with the client.......... I manually added the client to the
domain before finding out about the add client computer wizard
(http://myserver/connectcomputer) so I tried running this. However when I
ran this I got an error on the client computer after entering the user name
and password. I can't remember the error but it had something to do with
DHCP and not being able to find a list of users (I think)............ any
ideas? Do I have something set up incorrectly on my clients network
settings? I have checked the server and everything is OK there, is there
something I need to set on the router? (router DNS settings??)............
this is driving me pretty crazy.

Thanks.

You need to delete the computer account first using the wizard. Re-add it
using the wizard the run connectcomputer.

Thanks for the reply, however I already deleted the computer from the server
management and then tried to go to http://myserver/connectcomputer but it
still did not work.

Did you re-add it using the wizard? If so if you can post an ipconfig /all
from both server and workstation.

What about the client's ipconfig /all? Do you use a single nic or double
nic.

I can't get onto the client right now, at work and no way of accessing it
remotely (can only get to the Computer Management of the client from here,
not sure if there is anyway to get an Ipconfig/all from this).

Its a single NIC in the server.

Pretty sure I have this figured out, I don't have the DNS on the client
computers set to look at the SBS 2003 box. Just unable to connect remotely
to update it!!

Well that would certainly be an issue which is why I wanted to see your
ipconfig on the workstation.

Re: Still having RWW problems

This is driving me crazy.......... I updated the DNS on the client computer
to look at the server, and still no joy. The router is set to look at the
server for DNS, the client is set to look at the server for DNS..........but
connect computer still does not work.

The error I get is "The list of users and computers could not be found on
the server. Make sure that the Small Business Server network adapters are
configured correctly."

I can't find any other DNS settings on either client or router, so not sure
why I still get this error message and believe its probably the root of my
problems.

Are you forwarding your DNS querries on the SBS server to point to your ISP
DNS servers?
