Should I re-install SBS?
"Homer Jay" <someoneelse[ at ]microsoft.com> 07.07.2007 16:17:35
I have been trying to figure out RWW for weeks, and am getting nowhere. I
also am unable to use the http://myserver/connectcomputer to join client
computers as I get an error that the "List of users and computers could not
be found"............ I have my router pointing to my SBS internal IP as the
DNS server, etc ............. but have no idea why this does not work.

companyweb does not load anything (although I don't need it, and have never
set it up, but do not know if I should see something as a default) I have
errors of 4 services not starting (MS Exchange Information Store, MS
Exchange System Attendant, MS Connector for POP3 mailboxes and
SQLAgent$SBSMONITORING) although again I currently don't need POP3 /
Exchange............. I also have about every minute the following message
appearing in the event logs "#50070: Unable to connect to the database
STS_Config on SERVER\SharePoint. Check the database connection information
and make sure that the database server is running." which no matter which Kb
I read I am unable to cure.

So that leads me to think that maybe I need to reinstall SBS and start from
scratch. This is the 1st server I have set up. But I have no idea where I
have gone wrong, I can browse server/clients from server/clients, I can
access RDP, I can RWW to the server (but not clients) I can do most things I
want apart from connect clients to the server, and RWW to those clients
(probably linked to not being able to connect to the server)........... so
what should I do?

The main purpose of the server is as a file server allowing RWW access. I
(currently) don't need to use Exchange etc I literally just need a file
server and RWW access. So should I reinstall SBS? or continue trying to
figure out what the problems are? Reinstalling takes plenty of time, but at
the same time starting fresh may help clear some of the errors with the
knowledge I have gained in trouble shooting............ any suggestions?
Thanks and sorry for the long post.

Most people in this group will tell you to do at least 3 installs before
using an SBS in production. From your post it looks like you have some kind
of semi-production environment. So yes, reinstall and follow the
documentation.
AND USE THE WIZARDS.

As to your main problem, I believe you have a mis-configuration on your
network settings. We would need an ipconfig /all from your server and one of
your workstations to have a closer look at it.

May also be .net 2.0 instead of .net 1.1 on that companyweb

But lets start with ipconfig /all and go from there.
