Migrating to new hardware
"Arthur" <mynewsgroupaccount[ at ]googlemail.com> 07.07.2007 16:12:42
I am trying to migrate from a Dell 600SC running SBS2003 to an HP ML350G4.

I was foolish enough to believe the hype from HP that their SMP-P2P
Physical to Proliant Migration pack would miraculously copy the Dell to the
HP in virtually the click of a mouse. After a month of "assistance" or lack
of it from the HP support people I have finally decided that it will not
work and must now resort to a manual migration.

Before I embark upon a swing I just wondered if anyone has tried the
Symantec Backup Exec system recovery which I believe can handle this type of
thing ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated but I suspect the answer will come
back load and clear to use Swing Kit ?

Hi Arthur,

Do the swing migration. I did a swing in just a day's work.
The new server(dell 2900) is running for a month with no problems at all.
The $200 is the best time saving spending i did in years..

gr,

Patrick

You spent a month on this before coming to us? Wow, what patience! Here's
why you should consider the "swing migration" process for your task at hand:

Backup Exec System Recovery is not hardware dependent.
In fact it has a feature to redeploy to different hardware.

I just want to add to this thread for the good of anyone else considering
the Hewlett Packard SMP-P2P Physical to Proliant Migration Kit.

Please don't !

It doesn't work.
