Replacing ISA 2004 with Draytek Vigor 3300V
"Ben" <Ben[ at ]Newsgroups.microsoft.com> 26.06.2007 15:12:57
Hi

We have an SBS 2003 with ISA 2004 installed.

We are about to open a second office with another DC and are planning on
replacing ISA in the main office with a Draytek Vigor 3300V. The remote
office will have a Draytek Vigor 2950 and the Vigor routers will manage the
site-site VPN connection.

As a secondary option we also want to reduce the load on the server and
increase the internet access speed. Im sure even with our fast dual
processor server and 4gb RAM, running SQL Server, Exchange and ISA, plus the
internet access/vpn must slow down the server.

Am I reducing security?

Any advice would be much appreicated.

Thanks
B

Assuming you are setting up IPSec VPN should be fine.
There is some bandwidth lost in VPN, no doubt but router to router, keeps
that to a minimum.

You may find it you are running any LOB apps on the Main Server, those in
the remote office may find it too slow to run over VPN

Hi Cris

Thanks for your post.

We are replicating files and SQL Server to the remote office so most data
should be local (apart from exchange).

How about the security impact, do we loose much with the move from ISA?

Thanks again.

Just did a bit of reading on the device...don't think you have anything to
worry about with this device assuming that you close down all ports except
what you must have

25, 443, 444, 4125 are the only required ones...
