RAID 1 failure
Ry-UK 05.07.2007 15:20:01
Hi Guys,

We have an sbs2003 with a hardware onboard IDE raid1 config (2x40gb hdd's).
I noticed poor performance and monitored everything and can see that one of
the HDD's has failed.

I need to replace it, I was wondering on the best and quickest method of
doing so. Is it possible to just replace the bad HDD and it will rebuild the
RAID with out losing any data?

Many thanks!

Ryan

Well actually thats all depend on your kindo of RAID controller normally
the IDE integrated one require you to enter the Ctrl BIOS and launche
the rebuild or either power up the Machine and use the RAID Manager
Utility. so you will need to hand some more info

SCSI RAID Ctrl normally do all self once you plugged in the new disk ..

With hardware onboard IDE RAID, the vast majority of them you would:
1.) power down.
2.) remove bad drive.
3.) plug in new drive of equal or greater size.
4.) power up to the RAID controller BIOS
5.) rebuild the mirror
6.) reboot into Windows.
