soHi,
Question's in the subject really. Is it possible to leave a copy of the mail downloaded by the POP3 connector on the external ISP POP box? This is so it can also be picked up by a Blackberry. If not am I right in saying using the web client is probably the best way to go re accessing the Exchange mailbox remotely? The BES might be a bit excessive just for 1 user.
Tia, Andy.

Hi Andy, unfortunately you cant get the pop3 connector in SBS to leave mail at ISP (unsure if a third party app can)
However with regards to blackberry this is what I do for small amount of users on a site...
1. Create a contact for the blackberry email address , unsure where you are but in UK phone provider creates a blackberry email address. 2. In blackberry account (on the web) configure reply address as work email address 3. Configure user account in SBS to forward all email to blackberry contact configured in step 1, remembering to tick deliver email to mailbox and contact. 4, Then install blackberry desktop software to 'sysnc' with pc / blackberry when comesback in office.
What you think ?

First off, I don't know much about Blackberries :-)
My setup is as follows: - SBS with Exchange Server. - Two users with Windows Mobile 5 devices. Mail is fetched via Exchange. - One user who occasionally gets mail using the mail client on his mobile phone (an SE K800i). Uses IMAP but POP3 would also work. - The firewall is set up to allow external access for IMAP clients. - Internet access is handled via a Dyndns scheme and a few scripts.
The advantages are:
- All mail is kept on the same server. - If I want to, I can change the mail pickup method from POP3 connector to SMTP without having to change anything in the protable devices.

No, the POP3 connector cannot leave a copy.
For Blackberry users we use Exchange to forward a copy of mail to their Blackberry e-mail address rather than having the Blackberry use POP3 to collect mail. (Create a contact and add to Exchange General Delivery Options in AD Users & Computers).
Outlook Web Access is one way to access mail remotely, but Outlook using RPC over HTTPS (aka Outlook Anywhere) is a better solution for mobile or remote users with PCs.

I don't think the SBS POP3 connector can do that, but you really shouldn't be using it anyway.
The POP3 protocol allows this, but it is intended for debugging. POP3 has no 'read' status, and relies on clients to remember which messages they've already collected. Otherwise, every time you connected you would pick up another copy.
If your ISP also offers IMAP collection, that has much better facilities but you would definitely need a third-party downloader.
POP's suggestion is about the cleanest way to do it. Most people have private email addresses, and copying from Exchange to that is fairly standard practice whatever hardware is involved.

This option sounds the most appropriate. Yes, I'm in the UK and the guy has a Vodaphone Blackberry account so I will try this.
Thanks for your responses, I'll see how I get on.
Cheers, Andy.

OK, so I got Exchange sending a copy of the mail to a new contact created, but it's defaulting to the username[ at ]domain.local account when I choose where to forward the mail onto - and I can't seem to change it to the vodafone.net external account? The new contacts email address is set to the vodafone.net address, and SMTP assignments in the user account.
Any suggestions please? Thanks, Andy.

Answered my own question. I need to create a contact rather than an account.
Can i do this on the server somehow, or does the user have to do it from their workstation?
Regards Andy.

LOL... hi Andy, yes you need to create a 'contact' and it needs to be done on the server..
Under Server Management, Advanced Management, Active Directory, Your Domain.local, then right mouse click users and choose contact.
Once done then goto normal user account, properties Exchange General and Delivery options (dont forget to tick the box to deliver to mailbox and contact)
