I spent $2M on a brand new computer with Vista on it and nothing works. I sent 72 problem reports and e-mails to Microsoft and never got a response. If you are even thinking of getting Vista-DON'T, you will be wasting your money. Now I have to spend even more money to get Windows XP which works perfectly on my old 30 year old computer and a video card so I can download videos to my new computer.

Yo, Richard...dude...I would love to sell you your next PC. It won't have that Vista stuff on it...I'll throw in a copy of XP Pro. And for a limited time I'll sell it to you for the low, low price of $1.5M. Yes, that's right...a full $500,000 less than you paid for that other pile of junk and *way* better than that PC you bought in 1977 (which you've managed to mod to get it to run XP...impressive). So act now...my operator is standing by.

Wow! Do you realize that the first IBM PC was released in 1981? That means that our friend has found a way to make Windows run on a Commodore PET, Apple II or TRS-80. (These were the three "powerhouse" computers released in 1977, so anything else available would have been of a lesser hardware specification.)
I don't know about you but I must bow in genuine reverence to anyone who can accomplish that feat.

I work in banking, and I know what the M stands for. I also know enough to not use financial jargon in a general public setting.
You've made a common assumption about the error reporting tool that is incorrect. It is there to gather information so that the most common problems can be identified and corrected. If there is a fix available, then the oca tool will let you know there is one. Otherwise, there will be no response as the issues are not individually attended to.
Further to this, as this is a new machine, you should be exercising your warranty if there are that many issues. If the issues are with software that you desire to use with it, they should be addressed with the appropriate vendor.
As well, XP was far from perfect at its release, and still is.

Your computer must be really high in equipment (Hardware) if you spent $2 thousand dollars.
Aside from that when you send those error reporting (oca) to Microsoft most likely you will not get a reply. Nobody does. This is for their own data and information
Maybe if you can post and explain your errors that you are encountering someone can help you to solve it.
Also if you post next time do not use financial signs as it can be miscued by many.

You are not here to complain but to insult people's intelligence and common sense.
And you could ask for mercy by admiting your own careless mistakes, but instead you insulted more poeple by saying..
> Obviously none of you clowns graduated from high school or have ever > worked[...]
So if you spent US$2,000 on a system without first verifying if it could work as expected and when problem came out don't know how to contact the vendor for support and/or return, you are an moron.
Nobody makes fun of you - you are embarssing yourself.

What a lot of rot?
Noting works. Take it back or learn how to use what you buy.
A 30 year old computer has a 30 year old motherboard. Totally unable to run XP so go tell your fairy tales elsewhere. Your upsetting the serious users.

You're kidding, right? 30 years old? Uh... I don't think the respondants are dumb... don't think -any- version of Windows, not even 1.01, would run on a 30 year old 'puter.

And we all forgive you for posting about your 30 year old computer. And that you need a video card to download videos.
Geez louise, buddy, if you'd posted something that made sense, someone might have actually attempted to assist you but you flew off the handle right away and started throwing insults around because folks got a chuckle from your painfully inaccurate description of your problems.

Maybe but you're in OUR community now. When in Rome....
Also, if you think your XP computer is 30 (or Thirty and no/100 for you check-writing types!) years old, you can't subtract. Were you an accountant for Enron by any chance?

Only if you still use Roman Numerals! LOL
Metric thousand = 1K, street finance = 1G or Grand, or Large.

M
M [1] informal abbreviation for million in expressions where the base unit is understood,
M [2] the Roman numeral 1000, sometimes used in symbols to indicate a thousand, as in Mcf, a traditional symbol for 1000 cubic feet. Given the widespread use of M to mean one million, this older use of M to mean 1000 is very confusing and should be scrapped.

When you say "You really", do you mean everyone who hangs out in this newsgroup Mr. Pot?
Why ya gotta be hating Dick?
30 year old computer, damn, lemme Google(tm) a computer timeline....
Ah, here we go... http://www.computerhope.com/history/196080.htm
1977 Ward Christansen develops a popular modem transfer modem called Xmodem. 1977 Apple becomes Incorporated January 4, 1977 1977 Apple Computer Inc., Radio Shack, and Commodore all introduce mass-market computers. 1977 ARCNET the first commercially network is developed 1977 Zoom Telephonics is founded. 1977 Apple Computer’s Apple II, the first personal computer with color graphics is demonstrated. 1977 Commodore announces that the PET (Personal Electronic Transactor) will be a self-contained unit, with a CPU, RAM, ROM, keyboard, monitor and tape recorder all for $495.00 1977 Microsoft sells the license for BASIC to Radio Shack and Apple and introduces the program in Japan. 1977 BSD is introduced.
Holy Crap, you have Windows XP running on a Commodore PET/Apple II?! Damn Dick, I am impressed.
If you don't want to learn a new OS, stick with XP Dick, XP is a great OS, and unless you need Vista, don't upgrade. I don't think anyone will argue with that logic. Most computer companies still offer computers with Windows XP, return the one you bought and get one with XP pre-installed. Save yourself some time and a headache.

Richard was responding to a troll trying to stir trouble, there was no real request for assistance. Have you never blown off steam?
Shell shocked? Hardly. XP's initial release was far worse when it came to the number of issues. Keep in mind that at that time it was the initial merger of NT security model and 9x multimedia. These Vista groups are encountering less than 60% of the volume that the XP groups initially did.

Ever been there? They work 24/7 on everything all the time. A 60 hour work week is the norm, not the exception.
