Terminal Server NLB and Session directory
"Andrea Caldarone" <software-livquist[ at ]3techsrl.com> 05.07.2007 15:35:29
Hi all,

I'm studying an high availbility solution for my terminal server
environment, and I found documentations on NLB and Session directory, and I
have some questions:

1) can I host session directory on one of my terminal server cluster node?
2) is session directory cluster aware?
3) does NLB and / or session direcotory require a Domain controller (and if
yes, can it be hosted by one NLB node?)

thanks

1) yes but keep in mind for session directory each of your terminal
servers participating in the directory must be enterprise edition

2) No

3) No and even if they did it would be a very bad mistake to put TS
onto a terminal server.

Session Directory requires adding your terminal nodes into a local group
created when you start the terminal session directory service, so putting the
session directory on a domain controller isn't advised.

Even though your nodes must be enterprise, your session directory can reside
on a 2003 standard server.

Having your directory on a node can cause issues, as I have found, since
heavy usage of nodes can cause timeouts if your directory is trying to talk
to your other nodes for session queries.
