Unable to connect to XP PC using Terminal Services Manager
"Adrian" <nospam[ at ]hotmail.com> 10.07.2007 14:21:34
I am trying to remotely control a Windows XP (SP2) using Terminal Services
Manager from a Windows 2003 server. Although I can see the PC in Terminal
Services Manager I get a message saying 'You could not be authentificated on
this server'.

I have changed the DWord for TSAdvertise and TSEnabled to 1, switched off
the firewall and added myself to the local group of Remote Users. I can
connect to it using the RDP client.

We have 3 other XP machines that we can connect to via the Terminal Services
Manager with no problem.

Any advice most welcome.

Adrian

You need to add your user account to XP's local administrators group to be
able to connect remotely with Terminal Services Manager (TSAdmin.exe).
Also, on the XP machine, please verify:
1. registry key
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\AllowRemoteRPC is set
to 1. A reboot maybe required if you change this setting.
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal
Server\fDenyTSConnections is set to 0.
3. Disable "Force Guest" logon. goto to local security pololicy
(secpol.msc)->Security Settings->Local Policies->Security Options->Network
access: Sharing and security model for local accounts, set to "Classic"

On the machine that runs tsadmin.exe,
1 Make sure key manager does not contain the XP machines name, goto
Control panel->Stored User Names and Passwords. (Alternate way to access
this is with cmdkey.exe command line)

Thanks
Soo Kuan
