Expert : SHIFT/CTRL & Registry ButtonMaps
ATZ 30.06.2007 07:44:00
Hello everybody,
this is a tricky one...At least I think...
In TPC XP I used to map SHIFT and CTRL to UP/DOWN tablet buttons : Great !!!
I work with a graphical tool every day and use these two keys all the time.
Multiple selection is mandatory in my hourly tasks and I cannot go without.

Well, I just upgraded to Vista Business and.....I can't find a way to map
the SHIFT key. CTRL works fine....but no way to get SHIFT (alone)...

I had a look at registry HKCU\Control Panel\TabletPC\ButtonMaps but I'm not
capable nor brave enough to decrypt and alter those values to meet my hopes.

MVPS and enthusiats, can you please help, if you have the time and knowledge.
Thank you for trying or maybe pointing me to some direction.

NOTA : I don't want to use the Tip/Accessibility Keyboard as I do those
SHIFT/CTRL operations like 10-50 times per hour...

It's not really clear to me where and how you want to impliment this...
in a macro tool, etc?

The ability to map the keyboard Shift key to any of the tablet PC buttons
was removed in Vista, although I'm not sure why.

I'll keep my eyes open for any tricks that might bring back this feature.

The reason I was asking for more information is that in most cases, such
as in Irfanview, <Shift-S> is used to "Sharpen" but it's also a menu
command which can then be "macro'd" using <Alt-I><A>

Hi, thank you for the interest.
I need that Shift key for simply multiselecting graphic items...
I don't understand why MS removed it...
Anybody can decrypt the registry entries?

Thanks anyway.
