hidden files

i have the option hidden files not shown on the student account,
then with the profile limitation i have locked the mapoptions so that
the students can't alter the visibility of hidden folders and files.

i know offcourse they can still access them, but only if they know the
exact name, and that's acceptable, because they don't.

now, they can still see the hidden maps when they do a search with the option
search also hidden maps and folders.
then at sudden, you can see hidden maps, like if you said: show hidden maps,
a little more pale, allthough you have set the show hidden maps option at no
in the mapoptions!

i know that you can always do a dir /a in the cmd line, but that's a little
more complicated than a search.

so my question: is this a fault in winxp or is there a true setting so i can
hide
truelly hidden maps and folders, gpedit? registry settings of de profile
limitation? whitin shared computer? i've read something about a $ sign at the
end but this is
only for sharing i believe?

why do i want to hide folders, why not just use another account?
because some programs that the student run require data to be stored, but the
program itself stores it at a location. so the user himself can't do a "save
as". Now this progress of the student must be stored whitin the space that
isn't protected by shared computer otherwise it would allways be gone with
each restart.
Why do I want this information hidden? If you just copy this information
to another computer, the progress of that student wil be the same as the
progess where you copied from, and also all the points and evaluations. I
know the program is not good build, but its shool software from the makers of
the book and educationaly very good.

thank you
Christoph

I assume that you are using the Shared Computer Toolkit. If that is the case
there are several options open to you. The first option is to restrict the
drive under the user restrictions. Restricting the drive only hides the
drive from the students view. Second option is to use the restricted start
menu if you are still having problems after restricting the drive. Third,
you can easily right click on the taskbar and modify the user menu to remove
the search option from the xp menu. I hope this helps.

there isn't a way to allow the search function for student,
sometimes folders get lost and if they still remember the name,
they can search for it.

So allowing the search, but really hidding hidden files,
when the map options say show NO hidden files ?

yes i use the shared computer toolkit, and i know there's the option
to restrict a drive. But i need a folder to with i can write permanently under
a student account, and that folder must be hidden so students
won't tamper with it.

some educational programmes keep the progress of a user, within the
program files. I redirect these files to the d: drive because the
c: is frozen, i cant redirect to the restricted drive because the programs
run under student account, i thought i tried this but ill do this again.

Nevertheless i should be usefull to really hide hidden files.
