I recently installed 64 bit version Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard as a DC with Active Directory on AMD 64 system, when I installed I did not have an operational floppy drive. Since that time I have installed the floppy drive and attempted to locate/start the Backup utility from Start->All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools. I have found that nothing at all happens when I attempt to navigate starting from the "Programs" in the start menu. I had earlier installed a Visual Foxpro application which I have since tried unsuccesfully to remove,( used Add/Remove Programs, but application folder is still present and cannot install upgraded version of VFP application) not sure if this has any bearing on the problem. Anyway, there is no "System Tools" listed under "Accessories" at all, and no way to get to any Backup Wizard to back up or make a restore disk for my system. I have attempted to run ntbackup.exe from the command line but am unable to find clear enough documentation to indicate a method to determine whether that may be a viable workaround. So far, when attempt to run ntbackup using any switch or option, the system does not respond, which indicates to me that ntbackup is somehow broken on my system. All I can do is Ctrl+C to get back to a command prompt. I could skip backing up and just start from scratch ( reinstall ), except that setting up Active Directory for my tiny domain and getting DNS to work successfully has historically been a monumental challenge. Based on the advice I get here, I will pursue trying to get ntbackup to work, or, find out why getting AD and DNS to work is such a challenge. Also, what is the ( shorter ) path to self-learning Windows Server setup and configuration skills to become a more efficient administrator?
