User Profiles and Setting from 2003 32bit to 2003 64bit?
"Scott Townsend" <scooter133[ at ]community.nospam> 14.05.2007 23:06:07
So we have a new Terminal Server and its running Win2003 64bit with Office
2007

The Old server is WIn2003 32bit and had Office 2003

What is the best way to transition the user profiles from one server to the
other?

My Main concern is the Desktop, My Documents and the Favorites.

I've tried to copy those over to a user folder pre/profile and it wont use
the same folder. I don't want to have to have the users log in once in order
for me to move their stuff. It would be great if I could just change the IP
address and DNS one day and they all connect to the New Server.

Thanks,
Scott<-0

Hello Scott,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

From your post, we researched the various migration tools and utilities
that are available for migration of users and credentials in windows 2003
networked domain environment and found that none of them could be used for
this particular scenario.

Since this is a standalone server there is no SID history that can be
transferred across to the new server. It would be possible to transfer user
profile information to the second 64 bit Windows 2003 server.

Thus, while some user profile information can be migrated to the Windows
2003 standalone server, in the absence of a domain or AD, there is no
Microsoft supported tool/utility to transfer SID's from the 32 bit Windows
20030 server to the 64 bit Windows 2003 server.

Thanks & Regards,

Ken Zhao

I think You need more info... (-;

Both Servers are Member Servers in a AD Domain.

All of the user accounts are in AD and can log into either machine.

Currently all users log into Old Terminal ServerA (Old Hardware). All of
their Setting are there, Favorites, My Documents, Office Settings, Etc.

We have a new Terminal ServerB (New Hardware) 64Bit OS, and Running a new
version of MS Office 2007.

How can I transition the users from the Old ServerA, to new ServerB and
retain all of the settings they have in the Documents and Settings Folder.

If I just Copy over the Profile folder to the new machine what will that do
to Program like Office where its a new version? What about default options
in the Default User folder that need to be included for the new server.

Thanks,
Scott<-

Re: User Profiles and Setting from 2003 32bit to 2003 64bit?
"Scott Townsend" <scooter133[ at ]community.nospam> 03.07.2007 23:56:44
So I've installed ADMT, though I'm still not sure how this applies.

I have Users in DomainA, on Terminal Server MachineA, with user profiles
from DomainA.
I want to get rid of MachineA and only use a new Terminal Server, MachineB.
The users are still part of DomainA. though I want to copy the user profiles
over to MachineB.

More Specifically, the MyDocs and Desktop files, and Favorites. The other
settings I'm not as concerned, as we are also switching from x86 to x64 and
from Office 2003 to Office 2007.

Since the users have not logged into MachineB yet I cant copy the MyDocs and
Desktop files, and Favorites to the profiles folders. I dont want to make
alkl of them log in and then copy. I jsut want to point the Old IP to the
new server and have all of the ThinClients just reconnect.

Thanks,
Scott<-

| |
| | So I've installed ADMT, though I'm still not sure how this applies.
| |
| | I have Users in DomainA, on Terminal Server MachineA, with user
profiles
| | from DomainA.
| | I want to get rid of MachineA and only use a new Terminal Server,
| MachineB.
| | The users are still part of DomainA. though I want to copy the user
| profiles
| | over to MachineB.
| |
| | More Specifically, the MyDocs and Desktop files, and Favorites. The
other
| | settings I'm not as concerned, as we are also switching from x86 to x64
| and
| | from Office 2003 to Office 2007.
| |
| | Since the users have not logged into MachineB yet I cant copy the
MyDocs
| and
| | Desktop files, and Favorites to the profiles folders. I dont want to
make
| | alkl of them log in and then copy. I jsut want to point the Old IP to
the
| | new server and have all of the ThinClients just reconnect.
| |
| | Thanks,
| | Scott<-

Re: User Profiles and Setting from 2003 32bit to 2003 64bit?
"Scott Townsend" <scooter133[ at ]community.nospam> 12.07.2007 16:04:11
Please tell me where in the manual that applies to what I'm trying to do.

All of my users are already in the same domain, I just want to move the
MyDocuments and Favorites Folders from user profiles on one machine to
another where the users have not logged in yet.

Thanks,
