Moving shares/security to new drive (SAN)
"Andrew M Johnson" <andrew.johnson[ at ]drba.net> 11.07.2007 23:09:32
I recently attached a 2003 file server to a SAN for added storage. I plan
to move shares that are present on a single RAID 5 logical disk across
multiple SAN disks. Is there any good way to move the shares without
recreating share permissions.

Robocopy can migrate the NTFS permissions but I havent come across a way to
migrate the share configs

The FSMT only lets me migrate across servers

Other than recreating all the shares, the only other option I can think of
is to edit the registry directly under the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver keys to
point to the new drive locations

Hello,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

Unfortunately, there is not a way to move the folder retains shared
permissions¡¡on the same computer. We must re-share the destination folder.
You can use Xcopy source:\"Users Shared Folders" destination:\"Users Shared
Folders" /e /o /d /h /v /c>>C:\Copyresults.txt command to copy the folder
retains NTFS permissions, then re-share the folder.

Thanks & Regards,

Mike Luo

Thanks Mike. Its interesting that the FSMT allows you to choose any
destination so you would think its possible, but if you use the option to
stop sharing source and share on the destination, it gives an error that a
share already exists
