I have one site that is getting bad DFS referrals.
The referrals have always worked correctly but in the last two months the bad referrals outnumber the correct ones. The site costing hotfix (KB905846) is loaded but I reinstalled it just in case and restarted the server. The client failback hotfix is also installed on all PCs.
For a while a restart of the DFS server would solve the problem but now that will not work either. When accessing a DFS target you can check the DFS tab and it shows that you are accessing the correct or local server but the response time is extremely slow. If you run DFSUtil /pktinfo all local targets show active. I found that even though all evidence shows that the clients at this site are accessing the local DFS server they are actually crossing the WAN and pulling data from another server resulting in excessive response times. If I start imaging a PC from an image file on the DFS server it shows an 8 hour estimation instead of a normal 35 minutes. I found the image file open and being pulled from another DFS server in a different country, again even though all evidence shows that it is using the local DFS server.
Active directory site costing shows the problem site to problem site is - 0 - and the problem site to the one it is referring to is 100.
Any Ideas???
