Exchange 2003 SP1, Windows 2003 SP2
ZedsDed 09.07.2007 14:08:03
Hi,

My first post here, i've done a quick search but am interested to hear your
opinion on the issue of upgrading a windows 2003 server, exchange 2003 SP1,
back-end cluster to Windows 2003 SP2 Server.

Testing has gone ok, on a cut down replica of the live system...however, i
didnt go to SP1 a while back because of an OWA connectivity issue (now
seemingly addressed by hotfix 841561).

I've seen a few blogs that suggest that maybe an admin should think twice
before upgrading to SP2 on a clustered exchange back-end. What are your
thoughts/experiences?

Shortly after i'll be upgrading to ExchangeSP2 as well.

Many thanks

What was suggested in those posts as to why not to upgrade to SP2? I'm not
aware of any good reason that you shouldn't do so personally...

Yes, various blogs like the one below:
http://blog.shijaz.com/2007/04/windows-2003-sp2-compatibility-issue.html

I must admit i do have a few concerns. We're using DELL hardware, it seems
perfectly supportable on it from all i can see. testing has gone through ok,
however theres only so much similarity between any test rig and the live
system.

EDIT>>
i've just rashly put it on a user admin terminal server and it blocked
connectivity. i uninstalled it again and connectivity is back.

thats for the links posted, i'm certainly going to check them out.
regards,

Dell fully supports SP2. While the blog poster below did experience an
issue, I don't know for sure that it was caused by SP2. And that KB is
really old and only applies if you already have Exchange Server 2003 SP1,
nothing about SP2. I would have called Microsoft to troubleshoot, I am never
a big fan of downgrading!

Back to your issue, I bet the firewall got turned on for the NIC(s).

Cheers,
