Firewall is loosing rules when connecting to another network
Michel Heuvelmans 13.06.2007 21:49:02
Hi,

I am having trouble configuring XP sp2 Firewall. When I enable “File and
Print Sharing” en open VNC 5900tcp port it works fine! But when I connect to
another network IP range “File and Print Sharing” and VNC port is not enabled
anymore. Why? This is very annoying because we a lot of different networks
of our branch offices.

Have someone an idea what could be the problem?

Thanks,..

Best regards,

Michel.

You might be hitting something like one of the following:

1) the exception is open for 'local subnet' and when you connect to the
other network, those computers are not considered part of the allowed group.
The fix would be to edit the exception and select 'all computers'

2) the connection to the network has moved the machine into a different
profile (standard vs domain). The fix would be to edit this new profile to
include the same exceptions as before.

3) the connection to the network has moved the machine into a domain profile
which is applying policy to your machine, disallowing the exception.
