Forcing XP clients to use one route for F+P and another for web
"Gary D" <gary[ at ]admp.fsnet.co.uk> 12.07.2007 09:13:51
Hi All

At my site, I have 2 VPN links to our head office using 2 routers (Router A
and High Speed Router B).
Router A is the router I would like XP clients to use for the internet. High
Speed Router B is for all other File + Print etc.

I have tried adding both gateways in the TCP/IP set up on the XP clients
(Router B metric=5, Router A Metric=10). This gives me good speed to the
other site as expected, but when I open Internet Explorer there is a LONG
wait before it goes online using Router A.

My question :

Can I edit the routing table using "route add" etc. to force all traffic
destined for 10.0.1.x to always use Router B, and all other traffic to use
Router A. This would seem to solve my problem.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks, Gary D
