Audio Synch on Burned DVD
Steve in Long Grove 15.05.2007 17:14:00
Just got my HP M8020n Media Center PC. Last night I recorded 24 using an over
the air antennae in High Definition. Since I have not connected my PC to my
TV yet I burned it to a DVD to see how well it works. I used Media Center to
burn the DVD. It burned slowly to about 31% and hung for a while. I instead
watched it in low def using my PVR and by the end of the show the media
center DVD was done. I played it on two different players and using media
center on the PC and in all three cases the audio is not in synch with the
pictures. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve:

We have seen this problem with analog recording, but not digital. For
example, if you get video from an S-Video connection to your tuner card and
audio from line-in on your sound card, synchronization might be lost. The
audio source should be connected to your tuner card as well.

With the digital signal, the audio and video should be in sync. Have you
tried playing the original file using Media Center to check if the recording
is flawed or if just the DVD creation is flawed?

In our experience, to burn a 1-hour program, in round figures it takes about
2-hours, so your indicated time seems about right.

Sorry I can't be more help,
Tim

The problem is with the burned DVD. The media center copy plays just fine.
The capture was using the tuner with an over the air antennae.

Steve:

We've burned a few DVDs from Media Center of digital broadcasts and all were
fine. However, in one case, when we manually converted the same DVR-MS file
to an MPEG-2 file, audio synchronization was lost. That seems like a
similar problem, but the conversion to MPEG-2 was not done via Media Center.
I don't know enough about that process to know why or how that could occur.
Sorry.
