Just wondering if these would be good for a HTPC:
Processor: Pentium Celeron D 2.8
Memory: 2 x 512MB DDR-2 memory

And which would be the better o/s, Vista Home Premium or XP Media Centre
Edition?

It'll work for an HTPC only if you put a decent video card in there. A
7900, 8600, or X1950 is recommended however some lesser cards will still
work. With a decent video card, either windows version should work for you.

If you go to Vista, you might want to consider a dual core CPU and 2Gb (for
better HD performance, new games coming out, etc). Otherwise what you
mention is fine for 2005, with, of course, a good video board. I have an ATI
x1300 on the Vista, nVidia 6600 GT on the 2005, and both work well. But then
again I don't do any gaming...

Personally wouldn't buy a Celeron, not for Media Center use, nor simple Word
Processing, they're just not very capable. Go for a duo/dual core CPU and
lots of ram.

Go for Vista Home, must say I was Vista-Negative at first, but I'm warming
to the idea!
