Digital Cable Signal Strength
Curbnoise 07.05.2007 00:26:00
Okay, got over the issues with the CableCard not seeing premium channels.
Not another question. Cable reception is very jittery and I am trying to
isolate a hardware issue vs poor signal from Comcast. Does anyone know what
a "good" cable signal level would be?

When I look in the ATI tuner diagnostics, it shows the following:

Signal Level: -30 dBmV

Anyone know if that is good, bad or middling?

how many splitters? what are the SNR settings? did the tech check
your levels during the install?

No splitters. Not sure on the "SNR settings". What are they? Tech did not
check levels during install.

what else do you see in ATI diags?

(most techs would attach a meter and measure the signal and adjust
if needed)

Frequency (Video Carrier): 517251 KHz
Modulation: QAM256

Carrier Lock: 1
PCR Lock: 1
SNR: 20 dB
Signal Level: -30 dBmV

of the machine and then power on again?

Haven't tried that. What I have found is that if I shut the pc off overnight
(or for an extended period) and reboot, much like a poltergeist, they come
back (the premium channels).

So, for the time being, I am trying not to ever reboot except when I can
turn of the machine for an extended period without needing to record
anything. I have also let Sony know about the issue so hopefully they will
come up with a patch or something.

I'd ask Sony Support if 1.14 is the released level of application
software and firmware for the DCT (and if there is an upgrade).
