Any Luck With CableCard and Premium Content (eg HBO)
Curbnoise 02.05.2007 16:27:02
I have the new Sony VGX-XL3 with the ATI OCUR card. Initially, all was fine
and I could access all cable content. 24 hours later, I can no longer access
HBO. Error Message simply says "Restart your PC, if error persists contact
your cable company" (ok, this is the short paraphrased version). Called
cable company and reset card remotely several times (also made sure host,
card... were a match at Comcast). To date, no resolution.

Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

do the channels start to play at all?
is there anything in the media center event log?

can you play OTHER premium channels OK that you subscribe to?

and yes, I've been recording and watching premium channels via cable
card.

please confirm that the installer reconfigured the TV Signal during
the install and selected the correct Comcast Digital lineup. You
might want to try reconfiguring this yourself (it won't impact the
pairing information).

What part of the country are you in?

The culprit has been identified. After rebuild, again everything was great.
Then I installed the update for the Blue Ray Disk player and voila -- no
premium channels. The DRM update for the Bluray player must not like the
cablecard DRM. I am posting this over at the Sony site to see if they have
had similar issues reported.

Any news? I was thinking about getting the Sony solution w/ CableCARD and
Bluray, but this issue is a big deal.

Everything seems to be working properly now. I have since installed the
Bluray update and watched a new BluRay release (Deja Vu) without incident.
